Job summary

Astronomer is building the foundational systems for Astro, Observe, and our IDE, shaping a scalable platform across multi-cloud environments. You will write strategy documents and implement the code, influencing the direction of Astronomer’s core platform used by hundreds of enterprise customers.

This Staff+-level role emphasizes durability, performance under load, and clear ownership, requiring deep experience with distributed systems, Kubernetes, and cross-cloud decisions.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of distributed systems, including failure modes, backpressure, and resilience.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes scheduling, control loop, and real-load operation.
• Proficiency in Go and building production-grade services.
• Experience across AWS, GCP, and/or Azure; architectural trade-offs in production.
• Ability to frame and drive engineering decisions across teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication; design docs and postmortems.

Responsibilities

• Own and shape platform infrastructure strategy across multi-cloud environments.
• Write the strategy and the code to prove it, taking ownership of outcomes.
• Define principled build-vs-buy assessments and advocate for best tools.
• Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation and architectural records.
