Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, CX Intelligence, to lead the design and delivery of production ML systems across the customer engagement stack. You will shape technical strategy and partner with product and engineering teams to improve resolution quality, automation coverage, safety, and customer experience.

You will own end-to-end ML projects, implement scalable and secure data workflows, and mentor teammates while upholding responsible AI principles.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in machine learning and software engineering, with proven success building, scaling, and maintaining production ML systems.
• Hands-on expertise with LLMs, deep learning, graph neural networks, or regression, with knowledge of NLP, information retrieval, data mining, or statistics.
• Strong Python skills and ability to write maintainable, highly tested production code for ML services.
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards across a team.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of production ML systems, applying LLMs and related techniques to solve customer experience problems.
• Define strategic roadmaps with leadership and translate vision into quarterly execution plans.
• Lead high-impact ML projects end-to-end from architecture through production.
• Build scalable, secure ML systems, evaluation pipelines, and data workflows with high-quality Python code.
• Mentor engineers and establish team-wide standards for design, testing, observability, and operations.
• Drive design reviews focusing on security, responsible AI, model quality, and architectural integrity.
