Job summary

Axon in Scottsdale, Arizona is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Communications Hardware to own the mechanical design from concept through high-volume production for compact, ruggedized, wireless-connected devices.

You will collaborate with Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, RF, Product Management and manufacturing to balance durability, sealing, thermal, RF performance, and manufacturability while meeting FCC/IC certifications.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of mechanical product design experience, ideally ruggedized or portable electronics, with EVT/DVT/PVT and high-volume manufacturing experience.
• 5+ years of technical leadership experience, guiding teams of 3+ mechanical engineers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design from concept through high-volume production for compact, ruggedized, wireless-connected hardware.
• Balance product requirements across size, weight, durability, sealing, thermal, RF performance, manufacturability and cost.
• Design complex components and assemblies using plastic injection molding, stamping, die casting, machining, adhesives, and bonded joints.
• Build and analyze high-fidelity prototypes; perform FEA, tolerance analysis and physical testing.
• Ensure designs meet field durability, IP66/IP68 ingress protection and RF-related constraints.
• Collaborate with ID, EE, RF, PM and manufacturing to translate requirements into robust, production-ready designs.
