Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to lead full-stack hardware development for high-rel space and airborne systems. You will drive concept through production, mentor engineers, and collaborate with software and mechanical teams to deliver robust, reliable electronics.

You will present design reviews and work in a startup environment that values rigorous engineering and clear communication. This role offers technical leadership and significant impact on mission-critical hardware.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 8+ years of industry or university research experience in board-level electronics design, analysis, and test.
• Experience designing high-reliability electronics for space/defense, including derating, worst-case analysis, and thermal constraints.
• Experience owning the design phase of complex board-level electronics with architecture design, trade studies, and detail design.
• Multiple experiences delivering hardware products through production and deployment.
• Expertise in PCB layout and manufacturing, including HDI stackup, IPC standards, and best practices.
• Expertise in derisking designs with board-level SI/PI simulation tools (e.g., Ansys SIwave, ADS SIPro, Mentor Hyperlynx).
• Strong understanding of adjacent fields (software, mechanical) contributing to hardware architecture decisions.
• Expert-level proficiency in electronics design tools such as Altium.
• Extensive lab experience for bring-up and verification of new hardware.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design of complex electronics modules and systems from concept through production.
• Lead teams of hardware engineers to develop multi-module products.
• Provide subject matter expertise in hardware development across the company.
• Develop hardware architecture and write hardware requirements for high-complexity systems.
• Perform detailed schematic design and PCB layout in Altium Designer.
• Conduct worst-case, signal integrity, and power integrity analyses; guide methodologies.
• Develop bring-up and verification/test plans for new hardware.
• Perform bring-up and key verification testing with a team to complete validation.
• Release modules to production in collaboration with Manufacturing and Test Engineering teams.
• Mentor junior and senior engineers to build technical knowledge and growth.
• Leverage knowledge of adjacent fields to streamline complex hardware development.
