foodsmart is seeking a seniorStaff backend engineer to architect and scale the backend and data platforms powering consumer experiences, clinical workflows, and partner integrations. This individual-contributor role emphasizes technical leadership, cross-team initiatives, and setting architectural direction without people management.

You will work in a remote-first environment, collaborate with product and data teams, and raise engineering quality through reviews, standards, and observability

Qualifications

• Experience as a senior or staff engineer building backend and data systems at scale.
• Expertise in distributed, resilient, and secure service design.
• Ability to lead complex projects across multiple teams without direct authority.
• Strong collaboration with product and data counterparts.
• Experience in healthcare, regulatory, or enterprise-grade environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve backend and data systems powering apps, workflows, and integrations.
• Own architecture decisions balancing scalability and security.
• Partner with product, data, and engineering leaders to align direction.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives beyond a single team.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and standards.
