Job summary

Ad Hoc LLC is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to drive front-end and back-end platform work within a remote, nationwide team. You will help shape the next generation of public-sector digital services and partner with VA teams to deliver seamless user experiences.

You will mentor engineers, design scalable systems, and advocate for solid engineering practices, automation, and robust testing across multiple languages and technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expert-level experience in at least one major technology stack with the ability to independently lead complex technical work.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals across multiple programming languages (Java, Ruby, Node.js, Python, Go).
• Experience with Kubernetes architecture and operations.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Argo CD).
• Experience designing or supporting distributed production systems.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and execution of platform capabilities and tenant integrations.
• Establish patterns and best practices for integrations including Kafka producers and listeners.
• Collaborate with VA producer/consumer teams; provide integration support and reusable platform patterns.
• Work with DevOps to automate operational toil and expand automation capabilities.
• Plan and drive technical roadmaps for complex projects with minimal guidance.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Participate in technical interviews and on-call rotation.
