affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Trust and Safety) to shape technical strategy and lead high-impact projects across scalable backend systems. You will drive reliability, performance, and security while partnering with product, design, and analytics teams to balance risk and delivery.

You will mentor engineers, own operational processes, and influence architecture at a global scale, with remote-first policy and flexible in-person onboarding where applicable.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience delivering major features or deprecations with a clear technical plan.
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with global teams.

Responsabilités

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risk awareness.
• Define and advocate for coding standards, reviews and design quality beyond the team.
• Help develop and mentor engineers through feedback and leadership.
