Job summary

Snap Inc. is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design, implement, and operate scalable backend services such as identity, friend graph, and core persistence layers.

You will work across teams to translate product requirements into robust systems, test thoroughly, and uphold production-grade quality with strong security practices. You will contribute to operational excellence, monitor for performance, and leverage AI tools to accelerate development while ensuring architectural integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; 9+ years of software development experience or equivalent.
• Master's degree +8+ years of post-grad experience; PhD +5+ years of post-grad experience.
• 1+ years of technical leadership experience.
• Experience with distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate critical scalable services (user identity, friend graph, persistence).
• Collaborate across teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
• Test, debug, and ensure high-quality code; apply best practices for availability and cost management.
• Participate in incident or hotfix investigations as needed.
• Advocate for scalable architectures and production readiness.
