Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, enabling flexible buy-now-pay-later experiences. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team, you will shape post-checkout systems—orders, captures, refunds, and settlement—and drive technical strategy across engineering to ensure reliability at scale.

We are a senior, high-leverage team consolidating our internal platform, defining boundaries, and guiding future product launches.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Strong track record building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to design services with clear API boundaries, reliability, and robust failure handling.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon and align to business goals.
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainable tech decisions and trade-offs.
• Define and advocate technical solutions and operational processes to multiply team impact.
• Own team operations: monitoring, on-call readiness, playbooks, testing, and incident response.
• Promote quality and ownership by establishing code review and design standards across teams.
