Job summary

Affirm is hiring a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team to shape systems powering affirm purchases after checkout, including orders, captures, refunds, and settlement. You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and own decisions with long-term impact.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• API design with clear boundaries, reliability, and consistency.
• Ability to deliver major features and deprecate components with a plan.
• Strong communication and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale and align it with business priorities.
• Collaborate across product management, design, analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risk management.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and processes.
• Own operations and availability with monitoring, on-call playbooks, and incident response readiness.
• Foster a culture of quality by establishing code review and design standards enterprise-wide.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and guiding engineers and leaders.
