The Online Storage team provides a set of managed databases and data platforms supporting checkout, analytics, and data science workflows across the business.

The Staff Software Engineer for Databases will shape the technical roadmap for Relational and Key-Value stores, drive scalable, multi-region deployments, and mentor

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• 5+ years hands-on database expertise with MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB or Vitess, including schema design and performance tuning.
• Experience with AWS, Spark and Kubernetes, and building highly available distributed systems.
• Proven ability to lead features from plan to production and work across teams.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for a year-long roadmap for the Databases team.
• Design and build scalable datastore components and multi-region, globally available solutions.
• Develop control planes for managing hundreds of databases and migrations.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and SRE to ensure reliability and impact.
• Mentor teammates and advocate for code quality and design standards.
