Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit to offer honest, friendly credit options for consumers. The Data & Storage Services group manages affirm's data infrastructure across OLTP/OLAP, databases, streaming, and analytics platforms, enabling scalable, reliable data access.

We seek a Staff Software Engineer to own the Databases platform (Relational and KeyValue) and drive the roadmap with cross-functional partners. You will influence architecture, build scalable datastore solutions, and raise the bar on

Qualifications

8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
5+ years of hands-on database expertise with Relational/Distributed SQL.
Deep understanding of schema design, query optimization and sharding.
Cloud environments experience and operating at scale.
Experience with benchmarking, load testing and capacity planning.
Familiarity with connection poolers and proxies (ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, PgBouncer).

Responsibilities

Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure and SRE teams.
Design and build scalable datastore components for relational and key-value data.
Develop control planes for multi-database management at scale.
Lead cross-team architectural discussions and promote best practices.
