Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy now, pay later with no hidden fees or compounding interest. The Data and Storage Services team builds a robust data infrastructure spanning OLTP/OLAP, batch processing, streaming, BI, and large-scale data platforms.

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to drive the technical roadmap for our Databases platform (Relational and KeyValue).

Qualifications

8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
5+ years database expertise with relational/distributed SQL such as MySQL/PostgreSQL.
Extensive experience with AWS, Spark, Kubernetes and distributed data platforms.
Strong communication and collaboration skills in global engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Set technical strategy for the team over a year and align with business goals.
Collaborate with product, infra, and SRE to deliver scalable datastore solutions.
Design and build components of the datastore platform for multi-region deployments.
Develop control planes for managing hundreds of databases, migrations, DR, sharding, and tuning.
Lead by example with high-quality code and architecture decisions.
Own team operations, monitoring, runbooks, and on-call readiness.
