Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Data and Storage Services team manages affirm's data infrastructure across OLTP and OLAP, supporting critical databases and analytics tooling at scale.

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to drive the technical roadmap for Databases (Relational and KeyValue).

Qualifications

8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
5+ years of hands-on database expertise with Relational/Distributed SQL databases.
Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
Ability to deliver major features and write high quality code.
Comfort with ambiguity and large-scale architecture discussions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in a global team.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Set long-term technical strategy for the team and align with business goals.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and SRE to drive initiatives.
Design and build scalable datastore components for multi-region, high-availability platforms.
Develop control planes for automated migrations, DR, sharding, and performance tuning.
Lead cross-team collaboration across product development lifecycle.
