Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit through a data-driven platform and a remote-first culture. We seek a Staff Software Engineer to drive the technical roadmap for our Databases (Relational & Key-Value) and to shape scalable, globally available data stores used across OLTP/OLAP workloads.

Qualifications

8+ years of designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
5+ years of hands-on database expertise with Relational/Distributed SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB/Vitess).
Strong communication skills across engineering and cross-functional partners.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Set technical strategy for the team on a multi-quarter horizon.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure and SRE to deliver scalable datastore components.
Design and build multi-region, horizontally scalable datastore platforms.
Develop control planes for management, migrations, DR, sharding and performance tuning.
Lead cross-team collaboration across product development lifecycle.
Maintain operability with monitoring, runbooks, on-call readiness and incident response.
