Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a seasoned attorney to independently manage litigation across claims with exposure up to $50,000. You will conduct legal research, draft pleadings, lead settlements, and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations to achieve optimal outcomes.

You will support senior counsel, develop advanced strategies for discovery and trial prep, and use e-discovery tools and case management software to streamline workflows.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the bar in California and in good standing; licensing before boards or federal courts may be required.
• Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law and related litigation.
• Proven experience managing moderately complex litigation with favorable outcomes.
• General knowledge of insurance law, and workers' compensation as needed.
• Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Proficient in advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal staff.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
• Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage all phases of litigation for claims up to $50,000 exposure.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and other filings.
• Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations.
• Support Senior Trial Counsel in all case handling through trial.
• Develop and refine advanced legal strategies for discovery and trial preparation.
• Utilize e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software.
• Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and Claims Representatives.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
• Design and conduct training sessions and mentor junior attorneys and staff.
• Ensure all legal documents comply with laws, regulations, MRPC.
• Identify opportunities for process automation and workflow improvements.
