Job summary

Liberty Mutual Group in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced trial attorney to independently manage all phases of litigation involving moderately valued claims (up to $50,000 exposure). The role emphasizes legal research, precise pleadings, and leading settlement negotiations through hearings, trials, and mediations.

You will support senior counsel, develop advanced legal strategies for discovery and trial preparation, and utilize e-discovery tools and case management software.

Qualifications

• JD or LLB from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the California bar in good standing; board certificates may be required.
• Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law and related litigation.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage all phases of litigation involving claims of moderate to heavy value (up to approximately $50,000 exposure).
• Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations to achieve optimal case outcomes.
• Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel in all aspects of case handling through trial, including preparation and management.
• Develop, implement, and refine advanced legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation.
• Employ advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software to streamline workflows and reduce costs.
• Provide clear, well-reasoned legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and Claims Representatives; build trusted client relationships.
• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
• Design and conduct training sessions and mentor junior attorneys and legal staff.
• Ensure all documents are accurate and compliant with MRPC and company policies; uphold ethical standards.
• Identify opportunities for process automation and workflow improvements.
