Job summary

Versaterm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer focused on mobile app development to guide the Android platform from concept to release. You will mentor engineers, shape architecture, ensure quality, and work with backend services via REST/WebRTC, while supporting offline capabilities and diverse hardware.

CJIS security compliance is required; background checks apply. Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and delivering scalable Android apps with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and CameraX

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent field.
• 8+ years of Android development experience with team leadership.
• Proven collaboration and problem decomposition skills.
• Proficiency in Kotlin with Jetpack libraries (CameraX, Compose).
• Solid asynchronous programming knowledge (Flows or RxJava).
• Familiarity with Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics).
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub or GitLab.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to Android engineers.
• Lead design and architecture of complex Android apps for scalability and performance.
• Implement and utilize robotics to support public safety missions.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to align tech with business goals.
• Integrate with backend services via REST, WebRTC, and offline-first strategies.
• Adapt to various hardware configurations from smartphones to headless devices.
• Stay current with Android platform changes and tooling.
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines and release processes.
• Document app architecture, decisions, and development standards.
