Job summary

Versaterm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer focused on mobile development to drive the Android technical direction and architecture. You will mentor engineers, shape scalable apps, and collaborate across teams to deliver robust public safety software.

The role emphasizes leadership across a dispersed engineering team, integration with backend services, and hardware compatibility from mobile devices to edge platforms. CJIS security compliance is required for this work.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Android development experience
• Experience leading or acting as a technical lead for a team
• Proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack libraries (CameraX, Compose)
• Strong collaboration and problem decomposition skills
• Familiarity with Firebase platform (Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging)
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub, GitLab)
• Ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders
• Exposure to IoT devices or connected hardware
• Knowledge of ArcGIS/Mapbox mapping
• Experience leading dispersed engineering teams

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to Android engineers, fostering innovation and code quality
• Lead design and architecture of complex Android apps for scalability and performance
• Implement and utilize robotics to support public safety missions (drone, body-worn cameras)
• Collaborate with internal/external partners to align tech with business goals
• Integrate with REST, WebRTC, and other backend services with offline-first capabilities
• Support various hardware configurations from smartphones to SBCs
• Stay current with Android platform changes and dependency updates
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines and release processes, driving automation and tooling
• Document app architecture and engineering decisions
