Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to help design and deploy AI systems at scale within the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team. You will collaborate with engineers, researchers, PMs, and architects to build AI-powered products that transform how customers interact with Capital One’s services.

The role requires deep expertise in AI, ML, and software engineering with a track record of delivering production-grade systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in a relevant field with substantial AI/ML experience
• 8+ years of experience programming in Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java
• Experience designing AI systems with tradeoffs around cost, latency, throughput and accuracy

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies in production
• Innovate foundation model optimization for scalability and cost
• Contribute to the long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems
• Set technical direction for enterprise-wide AI architecture
• Own design and integration of model routing, caching, and orchestration
• Champion responsible AI principles across system design
• Drive internal education and mentorship through AI guilds
