Fivetran in New York, NY is seeking a Staff R&D Software Engineer to join our AI team. You9;ll research retrieval and agentic AI, prototype ideas, and ship production software across backend and frontend.

You9;ll define technical direction across multiple teams, mentor engineers, and help drive reliability and QA in a startup‑like environment. Ideal candidates have 8+ years in Python/Java with experience in SQL, data warehouses, and cloud tech, and a strong product sense for AI applications.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java, with the ability to move fluidly between back-end and front-end work.
• Comfortable reading AI/ML research and turning promising findings into working prototypes and production systems.
• Strong product and market awareness and the ability to define technical direction across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Research emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI, and decide what7s worth pursuing for the roadmap.
• Prototype new ideas quickly and turn successful ones into shipped, production-grade features.
• Define technical direction across teams, ensuring architectural cohesion and reliability.
• Build and maintain back-end and front-end systems for the AI product, from pipelines to UI components.
• Take ownership of production reliability, on-call rotation, and incident response.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to interview processes.
