Job summary

Fivetran is hiring a Senior R&D Software Engineer to join the AI team in Austin. You’ll work across Python/Java, SQL, and data warehouses to build the Agents Schema and Context Builder, blending research with practical software delivery.

Expect a true generalist role that spans prototyping, backend/frontend work, and SRE tasks in a startup‑like setting within Fivetran. Hybrid work with in‑person collaboration two days weekly.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).
• Willingness to work across full stack: backend, frontend, SRE, QA.
• Ability to read AI/ML research and ship prototypes.
• Strong product and market awareness to judge emerging techniques.

Responsibilities

• Research retrieval, reasoning, and AI techniques relevant to Fivetran AI roadmap.
• Prototype new ideas and ship production‑grade features.
• Build and maintain backend and frontend systems for the AI product.
• Contribute to AISQL capability: NL to SQL grounded in dbt metric definitions.
• Own production reliability: on‑call, incident response, and SRE tasks.
• Write tests and perform hands‑on QA to catch issues early.
• Collaborate with product and design to shape next features.
• Develop software designs and contribute to the technical roadmap.
• Participate in interviewing to help hire great engineers.
