Fivetran in Oakland, CA is seeking a Staff R&D Software Engineer to join our fast‑growing AI team. You’ll work on the open data infrastructure powering trusted AI agents and contribute to the governance layer that enables accurate, traceable context in customer warehouses.

This role blends research and production, requiring prototypes, backend and frontend work, and ownership of reliability, testing, and cross‑team architecture.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).
• Experience with LLM-powered applications and agent frameworks.
• Strong product and market awareness; able to judge techniques worth building.

Responsibilities

• Research retrieval and agentic AI techniques and shape the roadmap.
• Prototype ideas and ship production‑grade features.
• Define technical direction across multiple teams within Fivetran AI.
• Build backend and frontend systems for the Fivetran AI product.
• Drive AISQL development: NL to SQL in the warehouse.
• Own production reliability: on‑call, incidents, SRE practices.
• Mentor engineers and participate in hiring and interviews.
