Job summary

Fivetran is hiring a Senior R&D Software Engineer to join the AI team in Austin. You will explore retrieval techniques, prototype fast, and ship production-grade features across backend and frontend.

The role requires comfort with AI/ML research, data warehouses, and end-to-end ownership in a startup-like environment. You'll contribute to the Agents Schema and Context Builder, work on AISQL, and ensure reliability through on-call rotation and QA.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java, with full stack capability.
• Ability to read AI/ML research and turn insights into production features.
• Strong product and market awareness to distinguish hype from value.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).
• Willingness to own and operate across backend, frontend, SRE, and QA.

Responsibilities

• Research retrieval techniques in AI and evaluate relevance to Fivetran AI roadmap.
• Prototype ideas and ship production-grade features.
• Build and maintain backend and frontend systems for Fivetran AI.
• Contribute to AISQL capability: NL to SQL grounded in dbt metrics.
• Take ownership of production reliability: on-call, incident response, SRE work.
• Write tests and perform QA to catch issues early.
• Automate repetitive tasks using coding agents.
• Collaborate with product/design to shape the roadmap.
• Develop software designs and contribute to technical roadmap.
• Contribute to interviewing and hiring within the team.
