Fivetran, Inc. is seeking a Senior R&D Software Engineer to join the AI team in Oakland. You’ll explore retrieval and reasoning techniques, shape the product roadmap, and ship production-ready features that power trusted AI agents in data warehouses.

You’ll prototype ideas quickly, work across backend and frontend, contribute to AISQL and reliability, and thrive in a startup-like environment with ownership and broad responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java.
• Ability to move fluidly between back-end and front-end work.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks).
• Willingness to work across the full stack: research, backend, frontend, SRE, and QA.

Responsabilités

• Research retrieval, reasoning, and AI techniques and evaluate relevance to Fivetran AI’s roadmap
• Prototype new ideas quickly, then ship production-grade features
• Build and maintain both back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product — from Agents Schema pipelines to the Context Catalog UI
• Contribute to the AISQL capability: natural language to SQL grounded in dbt metric definitions
• Take ownership of production reliability: on-call rotation, incident response, and SRE work
• Write and maintain tests, and do hands-on QA to catch issues before customers do
