Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer who will help build responsible, scalable AI systems for real-time banking experiences. You will partner with engineers, scientists, PMs, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products and maintain observability, governance, and model evaluation across a broad tech stack.

You will design and optimize foundation models, multi-model workflows, and vector search while championing responsible AI.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 8 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or a Master’s with at least 6 years of experience
At least 8 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components
Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, PyTorch)
Invent optimization techniques to improve performance, scalability, latency, throughput
Contribute to the technical vision and roadmap of foundational AI systems
Set technical direction for enterprise-wide AI architecture and standards
Own model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid/multi-model workloads
Champion responsible AI principles across system design
Drive internal education, mentorship, and dissemination of best practices
