Atlas Obscura Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting operations in collaboration with our Controller and fractional CFO.

The role focuses on GAAP-compliant financial reporting, revenue recognition, and process improvements to support scaling. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of corporate finance experience, a Bachelor's in accounting/finance, and proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of corporate finance experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and financial reporting software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience with multi-location or multi-revenue stream businesses preferred.

Responsabilités

• Maintain accurate general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Process accounts payable and receivable transactions.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
• Support budget preparation and variance analysis.
• Handle employee payroll and liaise with PEO.
• Manage revenue recognition for diverse income streams.
• Track and analyze key financial metrics for all business units.
• Assist with contract review for revenue implications.
• Prepare month-end schedules and year-end tax documents.
• Assist with audits and tax preparation.
• Maintain documentation for internal and external reporting.
