About the Role
Our recruiting firm is partnering with a leading manufacturer and distributor in the food production industry to identify a detail-oriented Staff Accountant. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting distributor and customer accounting functions, and providing critical reporting that helps drive business decisions. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, resourceful, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts through accurate journal entry preparation and posting.
- Support allocations across multiple divisions, departments, routes, brands, and customer groups.
- Track sales activity, promotional allowances, deductions, and reclamation payments to support broker and distributor payment processes.
- Prepare documentation and assist with year-end financial audits.
- Develop profitability and financial performance reports for distributors and warehouse customers.
- Research and resolve promotional fees, scan-back deductions, rebates, and customer allowances.
- Monitor customer accruals, incentives, rebates, and payout activity.
- Collaborate with accounting team members to ensure accurate accruals and financial reporting.
- Gather, organize, validate, and manage financial data across multiple systems and platforms.
- Prepare special reports, complete ad hoc projects, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Support customer accounting functions including pricing, invoicing, credit memos, and account adjustments.
- Research and reconcile customer deductions and discrepancies.
- Process and support Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions.
- Respond to distributor and sales representative inquiries while providing exceptional customer service.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Required: 2+ years of accounting experience.
- Knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with large data sets and multiple accounting systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Preferred: Experience within manufacturing, food production, consumer packaged goods (CPG), distribution, or wholesale industries.
- Preferred: Experience supporting distributor, customer, or sales accounting functions.
- Preferred: Familiarity with EDI transaction processing and troubleshooting.
- Preferred: Experience with rebates, promotional allowances, deductions, and accrual accounting.
- Preferred: Experience creating profitability, operational, or management reporting.
- Preferred: Continuous improvement mindset with experience identifying and implementing process efficiencies.
