Job summary

Life Fitness / Hammer Strength seeks a Senior Trade Compliance Analyst to own the global import/export compliance program. You will partner with sourcing, engineering, legal, and business units, mentor junior staff, and drive process improvements across the supply chain.

The role offers hybrid work from the Rosemont, IL Global Support Center with in-office collaboration on select days; you will monitor CBP, BIS, OFAC changes and deliver training and SOP updates.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of trade or customs compliance experience with ownership of determinations and audit responses.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and driving process improvements.
  • Strong knowledge of CBP, BIS, EAR, OFAC regulations and USMCA/FTAs.

Senior Trade Compliance Analyst – Role Overview

Our Senior Trade Compliance Analyst is responsible for owning key elements of Life Fitness / Hammer Strength’s global import and export compliance program and serving as a subject matter expert across the business. This role also serves as a strategic business partner and change agent, identifying opportunities to optimize trade compliance processes, mitigate risk, improve operational efficiency, and drive cost savings across the global supply chain.

This role operates with significant autonomy and sound judgment on complex, ambiguous issues. It partners with sourcing, engineering, legal, and the business units as a trusted advisor, mentors junior team members, and strengthens the processes and controls that keep the company compliant with U.S. Customs (CBP), BIS, and international regulations. The role is a hybrid position based out of our Global Support Center in Rosemont, IL. M/F remote and T-Th are in‑office collaboration days.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead cross‑functional trade compliance initiatives involving Procurement, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, and Legal to improve business processes, reduce compliance risk, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Make HTS / Schedule B and ECCN determinations, document the supporting rationale, and prepare binding ruling requests with CBP when classification is ambiguous.
  • Qualify goods under USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements, issue certifications, and own the annual country of origin and FTA solicitation project.
  • Serve as the classification and origin authority for EU, UK, and other regional brokers.
  • Analyze BOM data to support FTA qualification and manufacturing drawback.
  • Adjudicate denied party screening results, investigating and resolving potential matches, documenting the disposition, and escalating to legal when warranted.
  • Lead responses to CBP inquiries, post summary corrections, protests, prior disclosures, and Focused Assessments, serving as a direct point of contact with CBP and brokers.
  • Own broker management, including issuing broker instructions, auditing broker and AES filing accuracy and performance, and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Own the duty drawback program, preparing and reviewing claims, setting filing strategy, and maximizing recovery.
  • Maintain a compliant, audit‑ready record retention system that meets all government requirements.
  • Identify and pursue duty savings and risk mitigation opportunities, including FTA utilization, duty deferral, valuation, and tariff engineering inputs.
  • Develop business cases, implementation plans, and stakeholder alignment strategies to successfully execute opportunities from concept through realization.
  • Monitor regulatory changes across CBP, BIS, OFAC, and Census / FTR, and assess and communicate business impact.
  • Design and deliver the import and export compliance training program.
  • Write and maintain standard operating procedures and relevant sections of the compliance manual.
  • Lead trade compliance projects and process improvements, and review the work of and mentor junior analysts.
  • Manage project timelines, stakeholder communications, and implementation activities to ensure successful delivery of strategic trade compliance initiatives.
  • Prepare and present monthly trade compliance metrics and program reporting to leadership.
  • Monitor evolving global trade regulations, tariff actions, forced labor requirements, sanctions programs, and emerging compliance risks, evaluating business impact and recommending proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) certification required.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation preferred.
  • Licensed Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation strongly preferred.
  • 5-7 years of trade or customs compliance experience, with demonstrated ownership of determinations and audit responses, and compliance program initiatives.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional projects and driving process improvements is strongly preferred.
  • Working command of 19 CFR, HTSUS, the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), the EAR, and OFAC sanctions programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current global trade environment, including Section 232 and Section 301 tariffs, UFLPA / forced labor requirements, sanctions and embargo programs, duty drawback, customs valuation, and Free Trade Agreements.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to independently lead initiatives, coordinate stakeholders, manage timelines, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience partnering cross‑functionally with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, and/or Legal teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulations, develop policies and procedures, and translate regulatory requirements into practical business processes.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and exercise judgment on complex, ambiguous issues.
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze large data sets; experience with an ERP (Oracle) preferred.
  • Direct experience preparing duty drawback claims and qualifying goods under USMCA preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interface with auditors, CBP, brokers, and senior leadership.
Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position, intended for U.S. applicants, is $81,000 - $117,400 annually. This position is eligible to participate in Life Fitness / Hammer Strength’s annual Manager Incentive Plan to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of bonus varies based on company and individual performance goals and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
