Job summary

Raytheon, in the Materials Design and Development Section within Hardware Engineering, seeks a Program Lead engineer responsible for leveraging M&PE disciplines to design, develop, and manufacture missile hardware, supporting milestones and production costs.

Qualifications

  • University degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 3+ years.
  • Experience in materials problem solving and process improvements.
  • Experience with mechanical test methods and/or chemical analysis methods.

Responsibilities

  • Provide M&PE support for program review board meetings (CCB, MRB, PCB, ERB, PMCB).
  • Ensure peer reviews are conducted and M&PE positions align with program deliverables and 'One Voice' prior to report distribution.
  • Manage workload to ensure programs and the M&PE team receive required support aligned with schedule needs.
  • Lead trade-study development to identify materials, material properties, and processes; benchmark materials testing methods; document justifications for material choices.
  • Negotiate labor costs and estimated completion schedules provided by M&PE to meet product/program commitments.
  • Resolve technical and operational problems.
  • Mentor and train early-career engineers.
  • Participate on failure investigation teams to provide technical support.
  • Support proposal efforts that include M&PE tasks.
  • Present technical positions or data result summaries to large technical audiences.

The Materials & Process Engineering (M&PE) Department within Hardware Engineering seeks a Program Lead engineer in the Materials Design and Development Section. The role is accountable for leveraging hardware and M&PE disciplines to design, develop, and manufacture missile hardware, support program milestones, and provide technical execution within committed production schedules and costs.

What You Will Do
  • Provide M&PE support for program review board meetings (CCB, MRB, PCB, ERB, PMCB).
  • Ensure peer reviews are conducted and M&PE positions align with program deliverables and "One Voice" prior to report distribution.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • University degree (or equivalent experience) with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in materials problem‑solving (e.g., process improvements, selecting alternate materials or protective coatings to address material issues).
  • Experience with mechanical test methods (tensile, compression, lap shear, hardness, viscosity) and/or chemical analysis methods (FT‑IR spectroscopy, cure rate of adhesives, DMA, TMA, gas chromatography, etc.).
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
  • 7 years of experience in materials problem‑solving, materials characterization, or production engineering and competency with technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Experience with program gate reviews, PDM, assembly drawings, material specifications, and military specifications.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Extensive experience with material review boards, material and process change boards, risk boards, and engineering review boards.
  • Broad knowledge of materials science and ability to collaborate with subject‑matter experts.
  • Decision‑making based on solid facts and data.
Compensation

Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD. The range is a good‑faith estimate and may vary based on experience, role, and location.
