Job summary

Commercial Metals Company seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician to support our heavy industrial operations in Nashville. You will inspect equipment, perform repairs on cranes, shears, and presses, and mentor fellow technicians to uphold safety standards.

The role requires reading technical manuals, planning preventive actions, and coordinating parts. You’ll operate under weather conditions outside and contribute to a strong safety culture across teams.

Qualifications

• Must work outside in all weather; capable of lifting 50 pounds.
• Able to cross-train; strong teamwork and safety focus.
• Experience with industrial electrical repairs and PLCs.
• Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems; heavy industrial background preferred.
• Read service manuals and technical documents; write training docs.

Responsibilities

• Attend training on applicable equipment and safety practices.
• Monitor, inspect, and maintain shop machinery and equipment.
• Repair overhead cranes, shears, benders, welders, and related gear.
• Mentor maintenance teammates and participate in safety programs.
• Plan projects, estimate hours, purchase parts, and document actions.

What You'll Do

• Attend training regarding applicable equipment
• Effectively monitor and inspect equipment for defects
• Maintain and repair shop machinery and/or mechanical equipment to include overhead cranes, shears, benders, threaders, forges, induction heaters, and welders
• Mentor and train other maintenance team members
• Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture
• Perform additional duties as needed
• Perform all facets of the repair safely while utilizing hand tools, power tools and precision tools at different heights or adverse conditions
• Perform building maintenance as required
• Project planning including estimating man hours and job completion hours
• Purchase supplies and parts for repair, track purchase requisitions when necessary
• Train machine operators on proper equipment use
• Work alongside other Technicians on job orders and troubleshooting
• Maintain good general housekeeping, keeping clean equipment and work area. Keep all tools in good working condition
• Perform predictive/preventive/corrective maintenance, utilize computer systems and programs for documentation of maintenance/safety activities; perform time entry, enter notifications and work orders, enter corrective actions/comments

What You'll Need

• Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions to include working in the heat and cold weather
• Able and willing to cross train as required
• Experienced with industrial electrical repairs including troubleshooting and repair of electrical valves and switches, A/C - D/C drives and motors, PLC's and 480 Volt 3 phase electrical
• Knowledge with servicing and repairing industrial equipment
• Minimum 6 years preferably in a heavy industrial environment
• Possess specific knowledge of both hydraulic and electrical systems and equipment
• Both mechanically and electrically inclined with experience working in both areas
• Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies, rules, and regulations
• Possess a strong work ethic and practice safe working habits
• Ability to work as a team player in a fast paced environment, with strong work ethic, pay attention to detail and find root causes for issues
• Able to work overtime as business requires
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and steps, work outside under all weather conditions when needed
• Must be able to read technical documents and service manuals
• Must be able to write job instructional training documents
