Job summary

Commercial Metals is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. You will work in our facilities, overseeing maintenance of overhead cranes, presses, welders, and other equipment, ensuring reliability and safety.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, train operators, and participate in safety programs while documenting activities in our systems. This role requires hands-on electrical and mechanical expertise and a strong work ethic.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6 years in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Welding skills preferred.
  • Able to read technical documents and service manuals.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and work outdoors in all weather.
  • OSHA/EPA safety policies must be followed.

Responsibilities

  • Attend training regarding applicable equipment.
  • Monitor and inspect equipment for defects.
  • Maintain and repair shop machinery including overhead cranes, shears, welders.
  • Mentor and train maintenance team members.
  • Participate in safety programs and uphold safety culture.
  • Perform preventive/corrective maintenance and document activities.
  • Purchase supplies and track requisitions.
  • Train machine operators on equipment use.
  • Collaborate with technicians on job orders and troubleshooting.

What You'll Do
  • Attend training regarding applicable equipment
  • Effectively monitor and inspect equipment for defects
  • Maintain and repair shop machinery and/or mechanical equipment to include overhead cranes, shears, benders, threaders, forges, induction heaters, and welders
  • Mentor and train other maintenance team members
  • Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture
  • Perform additional duties as needed
  • Perform all facets of the repair safely while utilizing hand tools, power tools and precision tools at different heights or adverse conditions
  • Perform building maintenance as required
  • Project planning including estimating man hours and job completion hours
  • Purchase supplies and parts for repair, track purchase requisitions when necessary
  • Train machine operators on proper equipment use
  • Work alongside other Technicians on job orders and troubleshooting
  • Maintain good general housekeeping, keeping clean equipment and work area. Keep all tools in good working condition
  • Perform predictive/preventive/corrective maintenance, utilize computer systems and programs for documentation of maintenance/safety activities; perform time entry, enter notifications and work orders, enter corrective actions/comments
  • Maintain and repair shop machinery and/or mechanical equipment to include overheadcranes, shears, benders, threaders, forges, induction heaters, and welders
  • Perform predictive/preventive/corrective maintenance,utilizecomputer systems and programsfor documentation of maintenance/safety activities; perform time entry, enter notifications and work orders, enter corrective actions/comments
  • Project planning including estimating man hours and job completion hours
  • Purchase supplies and parts for repair, track purchase requisitions when necessary
What You'll Need
  • Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions to include working in the heat and cold weather
  • Able and willing to cross train as required
  • Experienced with industrial electrical repairs including troubleshooting and repair of electrical valves and switches, A/C - D/C drives and motors, PLC's and 480 Volt 3 phase electrical
  • Knowledge with servicing and repairing industrial equipment
  • Minimum 6 years preferably in a heavy industrial environment
  • Possess specific knowledge of both hydraulic and electrical systems and equipment
  • Welding skills preferred
  • Both mechanically and electrically inclined with experience working in both areas
  • Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies, rules, and regulations
  • Possess a strong work ethic and practice safe working habits
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast paced environment, with strong work ethic, pay attention to detail and find root causes for issues
  • Able to work overtime as business requires
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and steps, work outside under all weather conditions when needed
  • Must be able to read technical documents and service manuals
