Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, supplying natural gas and electricity to 6.8 million residents across all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Our primary goal is to ensure reliable power supply to our customers, committed to delivering clean, affordable energy 24/7.

Location:

This role is onsite at our Parnall facility in Jackson, MI. Candidates must be within commuting distance or willing to relocate.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct product and process research; provide field technical support; support utility systems; manage standards and manual feedback; oversee process change management.
  2. Coordinate with internal departments and leadership to ensure compliance; assist in project task management; develop and deliver training to technicians.
Essential Duties:
  • Provide engineering guidance on design, inspections, system planning, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, and data collection.
  • Develop infrastructure based on current utility needs, including creating fabrication drawings and custom reports.
  • Assist in establishing departmental standards and procedures related to plans, specifications, and maps.
  • Conduct field visits and collaborate with operations teams throughout project lifecycle.
  • Engage in on-the-job learning, mentorship, and support special assignments as needed.
  • Support storm restoration activities when required.
  • Interpret industry standards, drawings, and specifications; provide feedback and recommendations.
  • Meet with third-party firms and contractors to ensure standards and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead and problem-solve in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of utility industry trends, standards, and business models.
  • Experience with utility operations and technical writing.
  • Understanding of project management principles.
  • Ability to apply advanced techniques and modify existing theories and practices.
Education & Experience:
  • Associate Degree in a STEM field with at least 4 years of engineering support or design experience, or
  • High School Diploma with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Drafting experience is required.
