Job Summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading one or more engineering teams, driving high-quality engineering deliverables, processes, and projects throughout the product lifecycle. The role involves team engagement and development, ensuring robust solutions, and possessing strong technical, project management, and communication skills. Responsibilities include hiring, mentoring, and performance management of engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and motivate multidisciplinary teams including Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Stress, Safety, and Project engineers.
- Oversee project proposals, development, cost and schedule baselining, and successful project launches.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain positive client relationships through meetings, visits, and technical reviews.
- Specify major equipment, develop bid packages, and review engineering artifacts.
- Create training programs and mentor engineers to foster positive morale.
- Guide product development processes to ensure predictable performance.
- Drive technical strategy, architecture, and operational readiness for product lines.
- Lead R&D activities on new technologies and conduct root cause analyses.
- Maintain relationships with internal engineering organizations for integrated development.
- Ensure team performance aligns with business objectives, quality standards, and timelines.
- Conduct staff meetings and ensure change management practices are followed.
- Collaborate with manufacturing locations to maximize production yields.
- Experience with ARP4754, DO160, APQP, ARP4761, MIL-STD-810, and knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems preferred.
- Act as initial escalation point for team issues, prioritize and de-escalate challenges.
- Develop project and process plans, policies, and operational goals.
- Lead process or product improvement projects and contribute to resource planning and policy development.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
- 5-8 years in product development lifecycle; 8+ years preferred for senior roles.
- 3+ years of people management experience.
