Job summary

City of Chesapeake Police Department is seeking an Investigative Support Intern for the spring. You will assist detectives, work on real cases, and gain hands-on experience in research and casework while serving your community.

The role requires strong writing and verbal communication, confidentiality, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Flexible hours are offered between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a maximum of 30 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal skills.
• Possess investigative interest.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Support the Investigations Section by performing research in multiple computer databases.
• Assist with pawn shop compliance and research on active cases.
• Provide customer service and field phone calls for the Criminal Investigations Section as needed.
• Citizen/victim contact and follow-up on active cases.
• Provide the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office with offense reports when requested for case review.
• Assist detectives with compiling case files and scanning into record management systems.
• Assist detectives with active investigations in office and field.
• Compile information for crime bulletins and crime line releases.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
