Job summary

DeKalb County School District is seeking a SPED Paraprofessional for Freedom Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. The role focuses on implementing and promoting high academic expectations while collaborating with teachers to support students with special needs.

The paraprofessional will assist with personal care, health-related tasks, and instructional support aligned with IEPs, under certified staff supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.
• Associate degree or higher from a Georgia PSC-approved college or university is required.
• Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college courses completed with a GPA of 2.0 or higher from a PSC-approved college or university.
• A valid PSC-approved paraprofessional certificate is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with physical and personal care needs under supervision of a certified teacher.
• Provides health-related support aligned with IEP requirements and district/state guidelines.
• Delivers small group or one-on-one instruction per teacher lesson plans.
• Supports classroom management to maintain an effective learning environment.
• Assists with assessment and recording of student performance.
