Job summary

Midland Independent School District in Midland, Texas seeks a Behavioral Interventionist (SPED) to plan and provide behavioral support for students with severe challenges. This role reports to the Special Services Supervisor and works with campus staff to maximize academic function and independence.

Preferred candidates hold a Master’s degree and SPED certification; three years teaching or related experience with challenging behaviors; leadership is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Master’s Degree from accredited college or university.
  • Special Education Certified preferred or other specialized licensure or certification related to counseling, behavior, or social work.
  • Three years of experience as a special education classroom teacher preferred. Experience working with students with challenging behaviors.
  • Or Three years working in hospitals, clinics, or therapy serving special populations.
  • Leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide support to campus administrator and staff for Special Education students with severe behavioral issues.
  • Access students, provide intervention strategies to maximize academic functions and increase independent performance.
  • Develop and implement behavioral plans for students.
  • Consistently monitor progress on specific plans developed for students.
  • Provide appropriate time, resource and material to support staff in accomplishing behavior goals for students.
  • Work collaboratively with all campuses in assisting staff with students with severe behavioral/emotional problems.
  • Present a positive professional attitude.
  • Contribute to recommendations for least restrictive environment options for students with severe behavioral/emotional problems.
  • Present training to all staff on implementation of specific behavioral programs for students.
  • Utilizes current assessment data on students to develop an effective behavioral intervention.
  • Assist in developing training options for staff in serving children with severe behavioral/emotional problems.
  • Provides support in implementing special education programs for students with behavioral/emotional problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding behavioral interventions for students with behavioral/emotional problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding special education services.
  • Collaborates with families, students, and campus staff in developing programs and services for students with severe behavioral/emotional problems.
