Job summary

Midland Independent School District is seeking a Teacher Assistant for SPED Life Skills in Midland, Texas. The role supports the classroom teacher in care and instruction for students with special needs, under the supervision of the Principal and Supervising Teacher.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with 30 college hours and a Texas Educational Aide Certificate. Prior experience with SPED students and the ability to lift and assist students are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of college
• Educational Aide Certificate from the State of Texas
• Some experience working with special education children
• TEA Education Aide Certificate eligibility required

Responsibilities

• Follow the directions of the supervisor
• Prepare materials and displays as directed
• Demonstrate acceptable written and verbal skills
• Work cooperatively with teacher and students
• Assist the teacher in maintaining student discipline
• Assist the teacher in care and safety of students and equipment
• Assist with care of equipment and teaching materials
• Changing diapers for students
• Toileting students
• Feeding or assisting with feeding students
• Assisting with lifting students
• Assisting students with self-help skills
• Blending foods
• Cooking foods
• Assisting with loading and unloading students
• All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
