The Residency Specialist provides customer service to new andcontinuing students related to Ohio residency for tuition purposesas well as other aspects of their student record such as financialaid and enrollment. This role assists students electronically, overthe phone, and in-person. The Residency Specialist communicateswith other student services areas to facilitate the consistentdelivery of information and services; and refers students to otherdepartments and resources as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Student Support
- Serves as a College Residency Officer, maintainingresponsibility for certifying in-state tuition rates for eligiblestudents.
- Monitors students with temporary/contingent residencystatuses and facilitates updates when appropriate.
- Assists individuals with understanding State of OhioResidency requirements. Works with new and continuing students,gathering information to understand and evaluate their individualcircumstances regarding Ohio residency and general policies andprocedures.
- Maintains thorough and complete understanding of theguidelines listed in the Ohio Revised and Administrative Codesrelated to Ohio residency eligibility.
- Interprets those guidelines and relevant College anddepartment policies and procedures to ensure compliance anddetermine best course of action.
- Reviews incoming information and documentation forcompleteness, evaluates the documentation confirming satisfactionof Ohio Revised & Administrative Codes requirements making thestudent eligible for in-state tuition, and responds to student in a timeliness manner.
- Displays technical competence working within the studentinformation system, document management/workflow system, and otherelectronic tools.
- Conducts outreach and responds to inquiries in-person, viathe telephone, and electronically.
Customer Service
- Provides comprehensive customer service in high volume andchallenging fast-paced environment, addressing most issues on thespot and referring student to appropriate department for furtherassistance as necessary.
- Responds to student inquiries in-person, via the telephoneand electronically regarding residency and related matters such asadmissions, financial aid, registration and general collegepolicies and procedures.
- Provides explanation and guidance related to State, College,and department requirements and processes.
Classroom & Community Support
- Tracks all activities, evaluates their effectiveness, andrecommends outreach changes and improvements.
- General duties which may include updating/maintaining theColumbus State Residency website, residency application, andresidency forms.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records and otherinformation.
- Facilities in-person virtual presentations about residencyprocess to campus departments, students, parents, and potentialstudents both on and off campus.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attends all required departmental meetings andtrainings.
- Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity whilemeeting federal, state, and internal regulations & procedures,with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College andbusiness partners.
- Hours may include working outside of normal workweekschedule on an as needed basis.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years progressively responsible clericalexperience in the area of the assigned specializedfunction.
*An appropriate combination of education, training,coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- State Motor Vehicle Operators License or demonstratedability to gain access to work site(s).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderatenoise typical business offices. Must travel to various ColumbusState campuses and sites.
