Job summary

Texas Health Hospital Rockwall seeks a skilled Special Procedures Technician to support invasive cardiovascular procedures in a fast-paced setting. You will prepare patients, operate imaging systems, and assist physicians during complex exams with emphasis on safety and quality of care.

The role requires acute attention to detail, teamwork, and adherence to regulatory standards. Eligibility for radiologic credentials and ongoing certification is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• ARRT certification required within six months of hire.
• GMRT license or RCIS eligibility may be required.
• BCLS and ACLS certifications required or pursued.

Responsibilities

• Assist with imaging procedures and patient preparation under supervision.
• Operate imaging equipment and ensure patient safety and comfort.
• Maintain sterile technique and assist with invasive cardiovascular procedures.
• Document procedures, monitor patient status, and coordinate with team.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Here’s What You Need

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required and
• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology required or
• Graduate of an accredited school of Cardiovascular Technology required
• Associate Degree in Applied Science preferred
• One (1) year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred or
• One (1) year of experience as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist preferred
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required upon hire and
• General Medical Radiologic Technologist (GMRT) license required upon hire or
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification required within six (6) months of hire if graduating from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program and
• Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist (LMRT) license required within six (6) months of hire if RCIS certified only and
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly and
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within ninety (90) days of hire

What You Will Do

• Uses multidisciplinary, team oriented actions; assesses and recognizes the patient's emotional, physical, developmental, cognitive and psychosocial conditions; prepares room for examination (i.e. suction, oxygen, supplies); checks physician orders and exam requisitions using time-out procedures; greets and acknowledges patient using two forms of ID; obtains patient history; handles patients with IVs, oxygen, chest tubes or other devices; monitors patient during imaging; demonstrates knowledge of emergency drugs and equipment; uses proper body mechanics when assisting patient; provides assistance to the provider while administering contrast media under supervision and in accordance with regulatory code requirements; processes patient information, displays proper phone etiquette, and transports patients as needed.
• Explains procedures to patient or guardian/family member prior to exam; positions patient to correct anatomical area of interest; performs complex procedures including age related criteria and developmental considerations; adjusts technique parameters appropriately for age related factors; assists physician with complex and invasive procedures using aseptic technique; maintains attention to details.
• Processes and manipulates images; analyzes image quality; troubleshoots, makes adjustments or repeats procedures as needed; utilizes proper downtime procedures for PACS and HIS/RIS; correctly sends and transfers images to PACS; downloads images from modality or PACS to CDs; postprocesses images (e.g., 3D reconstruction, annotation); coordinates with Centralized Scheduling and other modalities as necessary.
• Adjusts technical factors; operates and maintains equipment in compliance with TJC, DSHS, and CMS standards; applies knowledge of physics and accessories; troubleshoots and properly documents equipment malfunction; stocks supplies and inventory based on expiration dates; exchanges and maintains dosimeter badges within designated time frames.
• Demonstrates the knowledge of and complies with quality control and regulatory standards; employs image enhancement techniques (e.g., magnification, filtration, collimation) during procedures to improve image quality; remains productive during periods of decreased workflow.
