Job summary

UMC Health System is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to support the Cath Lab with imaging during procedures and to assist physicians during catheterization. The role includes patient prep, monitoring, instrument stocking, and transport while complying with hospital standards.

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program, 2+ years of radiologic practice, and current MRT license. BLS required within 30 days.

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
• +2 years of General Radiologic practice experience.
• Current Texas Medical Board MRT License certification.
• BLS within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to perform portable and/or surgical procedures, fluoroscopic, and EC procedures.
• Organized with strong attention to detail.
• Able to work under stressful situations.
• Demonstrates knowledge of Infection Control and Universal Precautions.

Responsibilities

• Functions independently in Cath Lab; perform routine or trauma radiologic tests and use imaging skills to treat patients.
• Gather and exchange patient information with nursing and physicians ensuring proper identification, patient history, and reason for exam is accurately acknowledged.
• Set up and use all diagnostic equipment in each room and rotation after in-servicing.
• Set up Exam/OR rooms for Fluoroscopic exams, including equipment and supplies.
• Operate and maintain imaging equipment and report malfunctions to supervisor.
• Maintain aseptic, sterile environment on procedure drape and back table.
• Demonstrates knowledge of procedures for ECG lead placement and hemodynamic data collection.

Job Summary

Primarily responsible for preparing patients for catheterization procedures and directly assisting the attending physicians during procedures. Will be responsible for patient hemodynamic monitoring, recording, and report generating when not scrubbed into a procedure. Perform a variety of technical and diagnostic procedures. Assists in the care and stocking of instruments, equipment, and supplies. Assists in the transportation of patients and with housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness of the department. Must comply with hospital and department policies and procedures and work with supervisors to meet DNV, JCAHO and hospital standards. This position may have scribing responsibilities. Reports to Diagnostic Supervisor

Job Specific Responsibilities

1. Functions independently in Cath Lab; Perform Routine or Trauma Radiologic Tests and use Radiologic Imaging skills to treat patients.
2. Gather and exchange patient information with nursing and physicians ensuring proper identification, patient history, and reason for exam is accurately acknowledged.
3. Correctly set-up and use all Diagnostic Equipment in each room and each rotation, after proper in-servicing and a suitable amount of time to get acquainted with the technical factors.
4. Correctly and efficiently set up Exam and/or OR rooms for Fluoroscopic exams, including, equipment, scrub tables, Contrast, Supplies, etc.
5. Operate and maintain highly specialized medical imaging equipment and other accessory equipment; Notify Lead Tech and/or Supervisor of issues with malfunctioning or unsafe to use.
6. Maintain order and cleanliness in patient and surgical rooms to prevent cross contamination.
7. Maintains inventory supplies, coordinates student/patient room assignments.
8. Demonstrates knowledge of procedures, preparing for procedures, and identifying supplies and equipment needed for procedures.
9. Performs proper scrub and draping techniques.
10. Is attentive and anticipates needs of the physician for instruments, catheters, wires and other supplies according to technique, procedure, and special requirements.
11. Demonstrates knowledge of Infection Control and Universal Precautions for proper handling of blood and bodily fluids.
12. Performs proper instrument, sponge, and sharps counts, and reports discrepancies accordingly.
13. Maintains aseptic, sterile environment on procedure drape and back table.
14. Competent in clinical and technical skills specific to the Cardiac Cath Lab.
15. Observes assigned work hours, is readily available when “On-Call” and respects and abides by hospital policy on attendance and tardiness.
16. Performs and maintains correct patient ECG lead placement during cases.
17. Properly performs hemodynamic pressure monitoring, recording, and data collection in an accurate and timely manner.
18. Assists in maintaining proper function of the hemodynamic equipment and reports any malfunctions.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
• +2 years of experience General Radiologic practice.

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations

• Current Texas Medical Board MRT License certification.
• BLS within 30 days of hire into the role.

• Ability to perform portable and/or surgical procedures, fluoroscopic, and EC procedures, including general and trauma radiography.

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

This position maintains close relationships with Central Supply, Sterile Processing, and Cath Lab Materials Management. Interacts with almost all areas of the hospital to include but not limited to; OPS, all ICU’s, Pediatrics, Physicians, Nursing, Transportation, Housekeeping, Chemistry, Patient Services, and Volunteers. The person in this position must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with all.

Physical Capabilities

Work requires frequent walking, standing, lifting, and transporting patients, equipment and/or supplies. Required to wear an 8 – 10-pound apron during procedures Should be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be emotionally and physically fit.

Environmental/Working Conditions

This position requires frequent work near sources of radiation. Fast paced environment with occasional to frequent high pressure or emergent situations. This position is subject to inside environmental conditions. Occupational risk and exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, ionizing radiation, blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a Hospital/Medical environment.
