Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, TX is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant to support both Special Education and General Education teachers across all instructional settings. The role emphasizes behavior management, data tracking, and one-on-one student support to meet individual IEP goals and needs.

The position is a 10-month, hourly, non-exempt role with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 30 semester hours of college credit.
• Current Educational Aide certification or willingness to acquire one from TEA.
• Interest in working one-on-one with a student with significant needs (medical needs included).
• Ability to physically assist students with self-help, mobility, academic and behavioral skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education and General Education teachers with supervising students in all instructional settings.
• Assist with behavior management by modeling and reinforcing desired behaviors.
• Maintain data related to IEP goals and Behavior Intervention Plans as identified by teachers.
• Tailor lessons to meet individual student needs.
• Support lesson planning by practicing and reinforcing concepts.
• Assist students in performing self-help and academic skills.
• Provide one-to-one support for students with significant cognitive/behavioral/medical needs.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments.
• Implement accommodations/modifications as directed by teachers.
• Adapt activities and materials to support classroom objectives.
• Monitor students during transitions.
• Provide personal care services as needed.
