Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking an experienced Special Education teacher to support students with diverse needs. You will develop and implement IEPs, adapt lessons, and collaborate with families to maximize student growth across reading, writing and math.

Responsibilities include data-driven planning, weekly progress updates, and maintaining a positive, structured classroom environment aligned with state standards and IDEA guidelines. A Texas Special Education certificate is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution (required).
• Experience in a Special Education classroom setting (strongly preferred).
• Valid Texas state certification in Special Education (required).

Responsibilities

• Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students.
• Develop IEPs for a caseload of students.
• Implement IEPs, assess performance, and track progress.
• Update IEPs throughout the year to reflect progress and goals.
• Assess students’ skills to determine needs and teaching plans.
• Teach small groups including at-risk students in reading/math.
• Collect and analyze student data to maximize achievement.
• Discuss progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and admins.
• Prepare students for transitions and post-graduation plans.
• Implement state standards and IDEA curricula and assessments.
• Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance.
• Use assessments to adjust plans and update gradebook weekly.
• Communicate progress with students and families weekly.
• Facilitate consistent behavior management aligned to campus initiatives.
