Job summary

Sylvania seeks a dedicated Education Support Specialist to assist students with disabilities under IEP guidelines. You will provide safe, supportive classroom assistance, 1:1 tutoring, and help with self-care tasks under supervision of a licensed teacher.

You may perform medical-related duties, document Medicaid billings, and coordinate with families for IEP meetings. A High School diploma and CPR/First Aid are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of techniques for working with persons with disabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; perform math calculations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook and basic computer equipment.
• Knowledge of CPR and first aid methods.
• Familiarity with equipment used to assist children with special needs.
• Ability to solve problems using common sense across situations.
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, parents and community.
• Knowledge of mandated reporting procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, supportive environment so students with special needs may access education.
• Accompany and assist students throughout the school day as needed by the IEP.
• Provide tutoring/remediation 1:1 or in small groups under teacher direction.
• Transcribe instructional materials into Braille when needed.
• Assist with self-care activities including feeding, hygiene, dressing, mobility.
• Perform medical tasks under supervision of licensed medical staff as assigned.
• Maintain records and Medicaid billings; perform clerical duties as needed.
• Assist with organizing activities, scheduling events and processing paperwork.
• Assist with instruction in groups; monitor behaviors per behavior plans.
• Assist with informal testing/monitoring of objectives (sight words, math facts, reading inventories).
• Perform classroom duties (bulletin boards, calendars, centers).
• May assist with IEP paperwork; send meeting notices and collect forms.
• Schedule and contact parents for IEP, CST, MET meetings; assist with proctoring tests.
• Grade student work and record goals/grades where appropriate.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
