Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Special Education Aide to support students with disabilities inside and outside the classroom. The role involves assisting with IEP implementation, self-help skills, behavior management, and instructional activities under supervision of licensed staff.

Responsibilities include assisting with transfers, mobility, feeding, and personal care, as well as behavior support, safety procedures, and ongoing communication with teachers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of college or an associate degree preferred.
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Help meet the individual needs of student(s) including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning, and assisting with personal care.
• Help manage the behavior of assigned student(s) and intervene in crisis situations as needed.
• Recognize differences in students' needs and adapt methods accordingly.
• Work with students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises.
• Assist students throughout the day in classroom, lunchroom, bus, and playground duties.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned student(s).
