Job summary

Frederick County Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Instructional Assistant for Specialized Programs to support students with diverse needs under the supervision of a special education teacher.

The role involves assisting with IEP goals, adapting materials, and providing personal care support as needed, within an 11-month, 7-hour daily schedule. A strong emphasis on communication and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 48 college credits/AA or approved exams.
• 1–3 years' experience with students with moderate to severe needs in a school setting.
• CPR/First Aid training and Crisis Prevention training within first year of hire.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, in English, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Supports students under the direction of a certificated FCPS staff.
• Documents student progress and communicates with the team.
• Sets up/adapts materials and assistive devices as directed.
• Facilitates student progress toward independence.
• Monitors and assists students during educational and recreational activities.
• Assists with routine personal care as needed; may move wheelchairs and operate lifting devices.
• Assists in meeting IEP goals and implementing crisis intervention techniques.
• Attends IEP and staff meetings as directed; provides classroom coverage when needed.
