Job summary

Frederick County Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Instructional Assistant to monitor, assist, and support students with IEPs. The role may include extensive physical/personal care, lifting up to 50 lbs, and is performed under a special education teacher's direction.

Non-exempt position with 8:30 AM–4:00 PM hours, beginning ASAP, and daily on-site work in Maryland. Responsibilities include documenting progress, preparing materials, assisting with assessments, and participating in IEP

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; 48 college credits or AA/ParaPro for Title One Schools.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive applications.
• Capable of performing essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Regular and predictable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Supports students under the direction of FCPS staff.
• Communicates and documents student progress.
• Sets up/adapts materials and assistive devices as directed.
• Facilitates student progress toward independence.
• Monitors/assists students during activities.
• Assists with routine physical/personal care as needed.
• Monitors/assists students to meet IEP goals.
• Assists with health plans and emergency actions.
• Ensures classroom accessibility and manages assignments.
• Participates in professional development trainings and IEP meetings.
