Job summary

Frederick County Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Instructional Assistant for Specialized Programs. Under the supervision of teachers, you will monitor, assist, and support students with special needs to implement their IEPs, including extensive personal care when required.

The role involves preparing materials, documenting progress, assisting with assessments, and participating in IEP and staff meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 48 college credits or AA degree accepted.
• 1–3 years’ experience with students with moderate to severe needs.
• CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention training completed within first year.
• Clear written and verbal communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Support students under the direction of FCPS staff and document progress.
• Set up and adapt materials, equipment, and assistive devices for use by students.
• Assist with routine personal care not requiring a nurse.
• Monitor progress toward IEP goals and assist with assessments.
• Attend IEP and staff meetings and provide classroom coverage as needed.
