Job summary

Gainesville City Schools seeks a SPED Paraprofessional to support certified staff in classrooms, assisting with reading, math, and language arts, and to help implement instructional programs.

Under supervision of a certified staff member and the Principal, you will work one-on-one or in small groups, supervise lunch and other non-instructional activities, and help with field trips, materials, and parent communication to foster inclusive learning environments.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and GACE Paraprofessional Assessment required or 60+ college credits
• Experience with students with special needs desirable
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately

Responsibilities

• Assist students with reading, language arts, math, computer instruction and other skills.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assist professional staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises and assessments.
• Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to maintain a safe, orderly environment.
• Supervise non-instructional areas (lunch, bus, playground, study hall).
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Prepare and distribute educational materials as needed.
• Assist with parent contact to foster involvement in education.
• Support students with disabilities to maximize inclusion and achieve IEP goals.
• Participate in IEP processes as needed.
• Assist with activities of daily living for students with disabilities as required.
• Adhere to safety rules and procedures.
