Job summary

Champlain Islands Unified Union School District is seeking a dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to provide instructional support for students. The role includes 1:1 and small-group assistance, collaboration with teachers, and data collection on IEP goals to monitor progress.

The position is full-time for the 2026-2027 school year and involves supervising students inside and outside the classroom, with a focus on safety, communication, and adaptive support for diverse learners.

Qualifications

• Associate degree, two years of undergraduate coursework or ParaPro Assessment completed.
• Interest and aptitude for working with children.
• Experience with students with disabilities or related experience and basic knowledge of special education.
• Assist individual students and small groups with skill development and interventions.
• Assist the instructor by implementing lesson plans and educational interventions.
• Observe, monitor and provide proactive behavioral direction to students.
• Collect data on IEP goals and target areas under supervision.
• Be responsive to the unique needs of each student.
• Support development of communication, personal hygiene, academic learning and vocational skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to students in 1:1 or small-group settings.
• Implement lesson plans and educational interventions as directed by the teacher.
• Observe and monitor student behavior to maintain classroom order.
• Collect data on IEP goals and progress under supervision.
• Supervise students in classroom, outdoors, and on field trips.
• Communicate effectively with teachers and staff to support student needs.
